About the Global Day of Action on Waste and Incineration

Coordinated by the Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives (GAIA) the Global Day of Action against waste and incineration seeks to magnify citizens call for safe and sustainable alternatives to incinerating and landfilling waste to conserve our planet’s diminishing resources, protect human health and the environment from toxic products and processes, provide green jobs, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions that causes climate change.

The GAIA global days of action provide members and allies with a unique platform to come together to press forward a common agenda for Zero Waste solutions to the current waste, climate and pollution crises. They have seen citizens from all over the world opposing landfills and incinerators, working on composting, recycling and resource recovery, campaigning for health and environmental rights, working to preserve livelihoods and for environmental and social justice, calling governments to enforce international treaties on toxics elimination, working for healthy healthcare systems and clean and sustainable industries, fighting privatization of waste management systems, come together and join efforts in the shared vision of a just, toxics free world, without incineration and any form of disposal of the environment or communities.

This year, the Global Day of Action celebrates the first decade of this diverse, creative, locally-based and globally-connected movement of citizens acting for a just, equitable, healthy and sustainable world.
