About the Global Day of Action on Waste and Incineration

Day of Action against waste and incineration seeks to magnify citizens call
for safe and sustainable alternatives to incinerating and landfilling waste to
conserve our planet’s diminishing resources, protect human health and the
environment from toxic products and processes, provide green jobs, and reduce
greenhouse gas emissions that causes climate change.
The GAIA global days of action provide members and allies with a unique
platform to come together to press forward a common agenda for Zero Waste
solutions to the current waste, climate and pollution crises. They have seen
citizens from all over the world opposing landfills and incinerators, working
on composting, recycling and resource recovery, campaigning for health and
environmental rights, working to preserve livelihoods and for environmental and
social justice, calling governments to enforce international treaties on toxics
elimination, working for healthy healthcare systems and clean and sustainable
industries, fighting privatization of waste management systems, come together
and join efforts in the shared vision of a just, toxics free world, without
incineration and any form of disposal of the environment or communities.
This year, the Global Day of Action celebrates the first decade of this
diverse, creative, locally-based and globally-connected movement of citizens
acting for a just, equitable, healthy and sustainable world.
